Miami-based Strong Girls Inc. announced it is affiliating with Girls Inc., the national organization that inspires all girls to be strong, smart, and bold. Girls Inc. works with schools and in communities in 350 cities across the US and Canada providing more than 134,000 girls each year with mentoring relationships, safe spaces, and evidence-based programming proven to help them succeed.

Local nonprofit that empowers girls affiliates with national organization

A Miami-based nonprofit that seeks to empower girls is now has a louder voice. Founded by attorney and human rights advocate Virginia Akar in 2017, Strong Girls Inc., “provides girls in Miami with the resources and support to grow up healthy, educated, and independent.” Through after-school programming, about 180 girls in the county’s Title 1 elementary, middle and high schools receive the tools and knowledge needed to “thrive now and as adults.” Now, the organization will expand its reach through an affiliation with the national Girls Inc., changing its name to Girls Inc. of Greater Miami.

United Way of Miami Inspire 305 Builds Garden

Inspire 305, powered by United Way of Miami-Dade, is joining forces with Strong Girls Incorporated to build the garden at the charter school. The garden will provide students healthier food options with fruits, vegetables and herbs, which can in turn give them an alternative to pre-packaged foods available at stores.
