Our mixed group of 3rd and 4th grade girls at Beacon College Prep meets after school 4 days a week. They start the afternoon off with 10 minutes of mindfulness, which helps them manage stress by focusing on their breathing to help quiet the noise of the day. Our girls enjoy 20 minutes of high and low intensity fitness each day before they settle in for an interactive lesson in academic, social and emotional skill-building.
Nutritious snacks are always a part of our day as we learn about the benefits of proper nutrition. Our edible garden is planned for Summer 2019 where our girls will grow their own nutritious foods and put into action skills they’ve learned such as teamwork, patience, responsibility and accountability. Our BCP girls have learned to express themselves freely and confidently in a safe setting through journaling, skits and sharing circles.
