Journey’s Story

When Journey’s father passed away, her world changed in an instant. As she and her mother began to navigate life without him, Girls Inc. became a steady space where Journey could feel supported, seen, and safe.

Through her time in Girls Inc., Journey has begun to navigate her grief with resilience and self-awareness. She’s been practicing healthy ways to express her emotions, leaning into trusted relationships, and drawing strength from the community around her. With every session, she’s showing up for herself—building tools she’ll carry for life, and growing more confident in using them.

One recent moment stood out as especially powerful. Thanks to a partnership with a local organization, Journey and her mom were invited to attend a Miami Heat game for the very first time. Though the arena is just 20 minutes from home, they had never experienced a game in person—until now.

“It was our first time going, and we really had a great time cheering on our favorite team and hanging with the Girls Inc. family,” her mother shared.

The experience wasn’t just about basketball. It was a joyful pause, a chance to laugh and connect—and a powerful reminder that healing doesn’t mean doing it alone. For Journey, it was one more moment that reflected how far she’s come and how capable she is of moving forward.

Thanks to the supportive environment of Girls Inc. and its mission-driven partners, girls like Journey are not only discovering new experiences—they’re discovering their own strength.
